FIBULA FLAP SURGERY
Surgical illustration created for the Microsurgery scientific journal accompanying an article titled "Fibula Flap Harvest: How Leg Selection Impacts Inset for Mandible Defects."
This illustration was completed in collaboration with Lisa Hwang, MD at the University of Illinois Hospital. The article covered an alternative method of leg selection in fibula flap surgeries to minimize the amount of tissue harvest and allow the patient a better chance to preserve function and mobility in their dominant leg.
Original iterations of this project involved three figures depicting the fibula's cross section, skin paddle, and flap within the mandible. Due to printing and image constraints, however, the information of each figure was consolidated into a single image for the Microsurgery journal.
