About the Artist
Eva Mae Natividad Baucom
MSc, Biomedical Visualization
I have a passion for patient education, and desire to use thoughtful design and accessible visualizations in a medical setting. My professional goal is to use my skill set of research, science, and art to improve health literacy, engage audiences, and empower patients to make informed and healthy decisions.
Currently, I work as the Creative Director for Embodied Labs, where we use 360 film and medical animations to create embodied, virtual reality patient experience labs for healthcare trainees and professionals.
I received a Master’s of Science in Biomedical Visualization at the University of Illinois, Chicago, one of four accredited medical illustration programs in North America. This advanced degree has equipped me with the research and technical skills to translate scientific information into meaningful visual stories. Prior to graduate school, I completed a Bachelor's of Science in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior at UC Davis as well as extensive digital and studio art coursework.
One of the primary challenges when designing messaging and visualizations is their highly contextual and audience-specific nature. Growing up in California, I was engaged with populations of diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds that helped me appreciate this challenge. It is my mission to develop, understand, and apply the techniques and strategies that can be employed to create medical media that is effective for everyone!
